The Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities (PACU) is the oldest private higher education association in the country. It was established in 1932 to set higher standards for private educational institutions and to promote the interests of private education in the country. PACU counts some of the leading private colleges and universities nationwide, with 197 member institutions. PACU boasts a large number of enrollees in its member schools, and collectively, it is one of the biggest sources of employment in the country today. PACU has always been at the forefront of advancing and advocating the interest of private education in the country. Through the years, PACU has been instrumental in the passage of several landmark laws and advocated for complementarity, reasonable regulation, and academic freedom as a cornerstone in delivering quality private education in the Philippines.
The Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC) is a five (5)-member committee constituted to serve as trustee of the Fund for Assistance to Private Education (FAPE), a permanent and irrevocable trust fund. The PEAC has been an effective instrument to operationalize “complementarity” between private and public schools as provided in the Philippine Constitution. It has also been an incorruptible partner of the education agencies in efficiently co-implementing national subsidy programs for students and teachers in private schools.
USAID is the world’s premier international development agency and a catalytic actor driving development results. USAID’s work advances U.S. national security and economic prosperity, demonstrates American generosity, and promotes a path to recipient self-reliance and resilience. The purpose of foreign aid should be ending the need for its existence, and we provide development assistance to help partner countries on their own development journey to self-reliance – looking at ways to help lift lives, build communities, and establish self-sufficiency.
